He was on the ground before he knew what had happened.
He really should have been more alert.
He turned, reaching for his gun.
“I’m not dying today!”
The Indian stood over him—a woman.
“Why not? Today is a good day to die.”
He shot, but it went wide. She was fast, and knocked the gun out of his hand as he fumbled to shoot again.
He never had a chance.
They stared at each other for a moment, the world stood still.
She raised her spear.
He knew what was coming, he looked into her eyes.
My god, you’re beautiful.
Then it was over.
